Suzanne de Riet

Stars on Canvas

Painting of Rafaël van der Vaart

After a nerve-racking evening of watching myself on tv, I finally can show you my painting! I am very happy with the result and I hope it brings in a nice amount in the auction for charity.

In the next few days, I'll be posting some behind-the-scenes photos and close-ups.

Stay tuned!

Crossing out a bucket list item!

So have I an adventure to tell you you! I can cross out a big item on my bucket list. It’s something I wished to participate in since I started to really evolve in my painting and this year I finally got to do it!  Tomorrow is the TV-show ‘Stars on Canvas’ airing the episode in which I painted former international football player Rafaël van der Vaart. I had a great day painting together with my fellow artists Stefan and Coby. It’s often a long wait until the crew and camera’s are ready for you. But we had so much fun behind de scenes!

You can find out how it went and watch the show on November 23 at 20.40 hours on NPO2. Go check it out!

Modportrait 2023

For the second time in a row a painting of Suzanne's has been nominated for Modportrait. This prestigious contest selects a limited amount of paintings out of hundreds submissions. To be selected is a huge honor. The portrait of a boy will be on display at MEAM in Barcelona from May 17th until September 2024. A second painting, Worker Bee, has reached the preselection. This means it won't go to Barcelona but the painting is considered of a quality high enough to be included in the Special Edition Catalogue.

Portrait of a boy

As a finalist in the leading international contest Modportrait 2023 and 2022 and nominee for the Dutch Portrait award 2023, Suzanne has proven her paintings are of exceptional quality.

Suzanne uses a realistic style and, depending on the subject, she paints in great detail with strong values to create a very intense piece.

Self-image is a recurring theme in her paintings. She blurs the lines of sexuality and makes us accept these fluid states of being, as they seem so natural in her portraits. Often times the subjects look directly at us, the viewers, in an attempt to make us understand their thoughts.

Suzanne continues to develop her techniques and follows one or more masterclasses every year.
