I made this painting out of interest for the beautiful patterns on this Japanese. He is wearing a yukata. Unlike the traditional kimono’s, a yukata is a single layer kimono, worn in the comfort and privacy of ones own home. Which brings us to the story told in this painting. The boy is facing us, hands relaxed, his elbows leaning on his knees. His eyes lock with us, which ads to the feeling of confrontation. Why is he sitting there? His yukata has a cherry blossom pattern, usually reserved for female clothing… and with that I leave you to make your own story of what happened there.
