In the summer of ’22 I came across this vibrant lady. She swirled into the room with her colorful clothes and the most beautiful greenish eyes. They are surrounded by little crows feet from working out in the sun.

Marjan lives in a small house in the French countryside. She spends her time outside and doesn’t like to sit still. I painted her because she reminded me a little of some of Van Gogh’s portraits. And that was also the way I wanted to paint her. The raw, strong woman, without any make up. Very line around the eyes painted, her strong hands put on the canvas just as she is.
